Assistant Manager – Operations (STP/ETP)

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Assistant Manager – Operations to oversee the commissioning, operation, maintenance, and optimization of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs). The ideal candidate should possess strong technical expertise in wastewater treatment processes, ensure regulatory compliance, and lead plant operations to achieve optimal performance and efficiency. Key Responsibilities Commissioning & Plant Start-up Lead pre-commissioning, commissioning, equipment testing, and start-up activities for STP/ETP projects. Ensure smooth commissioning of systems including inlet works, biological treatment units (MBBR, SBR, MBR, ASP), filtration, sludge handling, and dewatering equipment. Coordinate with project teams, consultants, and OEMs during commissioning and handover. Plant Operations & Maintenance Manage day-to-day operations of STP/ETP plants to ensure uninterrupted performance. Supervise plant operators, technicians, and shift teams. Develop and implement preventive and breakdown maintenance schedules for mechanical and electrical equipment. Monitor equipment performance and ensure timely maintenance to minimize downtime. Process Optimization Analyze plant performance and identify opportunities for process improvement. Optimize biological treatment processes, aeration systems, nutrient dosing, and chemical consumption. Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions to improve plant efficiency. Performance Monitoring & Compliance Monitor treated water quality to ensure compliance with statutory environmental norms and design parameters. Maintain operational records, maintenance logs, and performance reports. Track plant KPIs including flow, BOD, COD, TSS, pH, sludge generation, and energy consumption. Ensure adherence to Pollution Control Board regulations and environmental discharge standards. Team & Vendor Management Lead, train, and mentor plant operations personnel. Coordinate with OEMs, contractors, and service providers for equipment servicing, warranty support, and repairs. Ensure availability of critical spares and consumables. Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Implement and enforce Health, Safety & Environmental policies across plant operations. Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure compliance with all statutory safety regulations. Promote safe working practices and continuous improvement initiatives. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline. Additional certifications in wastewater treatment or plant operations will be an advantage. Experience 7–15 years of hands-on experience in commissioning, operation, and maintenance of STP/ETP/WTP projects. Experience in managing wastewater treatment plants using MBBR, SBR, MBR, ASP, or similar biological treatment technologies. Experience in handling plant commissioning and process optimization is preferred. Technical Skills Strong knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and plant operations. Understanding of biological treatment technologies including MBBR, SBR, MBR, ASP, filtration, sludge handling, and dewatering systems. Knowledge of wastewater quality parameters such as BOD, COD, TSS, pH, TDS, and related testing procedures. Familiarity with Pollution Control Board regulations and environmental compliance standards. Ability to interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and technical drawings.
